Kevin, you are sooo right! There was a time where I thought moving south (specifically, to Atlanta) would solve all of my problems and I’d live happily ever after. NOT! I moved there, registered my then 12 year old daughter for school, submitted an application for her to attend a more ‘prestigious’ (to which she was accepted) and moved back to Albany 2 days after she started. So, within a three month period, I uprooted my child, took her away from all of her friends and most of our family, put her in 2 different schools in a place that was foreign in her eyes, subjected her to a 15 hour drive there and 17 hour drive back all because I thought moving to ‘the Black Mecca’ would solve all of my problems. Thankfully, I learned (sooner than later) that my happiness is based on who I am not where I am. Unfortunately, a lot of my friends and family still believe, if only they can ‘get out of here’ then they can have a wonderful life. I just shake my head at them (because they don’t want to hear the truth).

Although I still have complaints about certain parts of the Albany area, I no longer want to move away because I do love it here, for the most part. I just have to find ways to enjoy myself and ensure my own happiness, whether I’m here…….or ‘there.’
