For a Christmas party, my husband and his business partner took their employees to diner and then to the movies to see The Jerk when it opened...not many architects did (or so) that! The Jerk is still one of my family's favorite movies...one son was an infant and the other not yet born when the movie came out. :-)

In my book, Steve Martin is the most talented man alive. I have his picture in my office with those very words written below it. I loved his autobiography, born standing up, wept while reading his novellas Shopgirl and the Pleasure of my Company and behaved like a giddy school girl when my husband and I were lucky enough to see him play his bango and sing--at one point with an arrow through his head--at the Troy music hall. And, on top of all that, he wears Armani--a true man of style and substance, indeed.

"If I had one wish that I could wish this holiday season, it would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing together in the spirit of harmony and peace.

If I had two wishes that I could wish for this holiday season..."

Funny as hell and a great commentary on the transient nature of good will

I was a student working for the Activities Director at Florida Atlantic University in 1976. We were in charge of booking acts and someone proposed an unknown comedian as an opener for a concert. They had seen him in Miami. A few folks went down to see his act and reported that not only was he offbeat and hilarious, but was scheduled to make his first appearance as host of SNL! We took a chance on Steve Martin. He showed up in his white suit with a very atractive woman on his arm. His green room was set up to specification, and he prepared to go onstage. At the last minute, I was sent out to look for a prop for his act - a napkin. Remember how he would hold it up to his face a stick his tongue through it? Funny stuff. Well, the show began and I ran everywhere looking for a suitable napkin. By the time I returned he was well into his arrow-through-the-head banjo routine and I had missed much his act. He never did end up using the napkin, but I do recall him as a perfect gentleman and a classy guy. Ever since then, I've followed his career, and have never been disappointed. Hope his show is as good as ever. I wonder if he would remember me.....

It may be blasphemy, but I love this one line from My Blue Heaven:

You have to see it, but it's the one that starts out, "You know, it's dangerous for you to be here in the frozen food section..."

Actually, I love almost everything about that movie. It's brilliant.

When his banjo record came out a few years ago he appeared on the Tonight Show (or was it David Letterman) with some of the people that were on the record. One of those people was Brittnay Hass, the young up-and-coming fiddle player in my favorite band, Crooked Still. I just thought it was neat that Steve took the time to find some awesome band mates and give some new people exposure. And Brittnay rocked it!
