Reply to come, but on that last part: wow. I’ll keep that in mind when wondering why I never got a phone call back from that job at the Times Union I never have and never will apply for. Because I’m not a professional journalist.

"Obviously." HAR HAR HAR

your point refuted - and probably safe to say you won't be working for the TU any time soon.

"If you're going to accuse someone of being lazy or distracted you should get the name right." Hey, bud, your logic detector is broken!

Either way, the difference is I'm on a for-free blog and he's a paid journalist for the biggest paper in the region, but more importantly his name is not nearly as important to the piece. To even try to equate a slip-up typo with reporting a ridiculously inaccurate number and important fact to a story shows you're either an ignoramus or just trolling.

But fixed anyway, pal.

He was still either lazy or distracted, and wrong. Point stands.

Yeah, that's what I stated in the above post, too. Still doesn't explain why media is representing the number as actual attendance (other than out of laziness).

In my work with various minor league sports teams and associations, I know that there will be two different types of "attendance" figures in play. One will count the average fannies in the seats, and one will count the tickets sold or purchased or "papered" around. It's been going on at the downtown arena for the past twenty years and two name changes ago, when the Albany Choppers hockey team would announce 4,500 fans in the building and someone could count heads and estimate that maybe 250 people showed up.
