I figure with all the negativity around the internet, much of it perpetuated by yours truly, I should share some good news with y’all.

Rescuers found and rescued an 11-year-old girl with a mild form of autism that had been lost for five days in a Florida swamp that contained alligators and hazardous conditions.

That she survived brings a smile to my face; that the worst of her injuries seems to be a lot of mosquito bites is even better.

Having nieces and a new nephew of my own, I’m always glad to read of a family’s worst fears dematerializing and being replaced by a renewed sense of hope and appreciation. I can’t even imagine the reaction of her family as they heard the news that their daughter was alive and safe. The joy must have been overwhelming.

I know I already did this to an extent on Sunday, but folks, if you have any good news: share it.

I heard about this on the news this morning– before they found her– and it sounded dire. I cheered a little when I heard the good news.

So I’ve got a good happy story. On April 20th of last year, a pit bull named Berdina escaped while on a walk with her foster person in DC. Shortly after, reports started coming in that she was seen at a heavily-wooded park in an area of Maryland where pit bulls are euthanized automatically. Shelter folks and other volunteers searched for Berdina tirelessly for months.

Then this past Friday, a guy called up one of the searchers and said he had the dog. They met with him on Saturday, and sure enough, it’s Berdina. 355 days on the run, through a blazing hot summer and three blizzards, living in a park that’s had multiple murders and assaults over the past year, and she’s perfectly fine and happy as a clam.

We helped look for her last year and I can’t tell you how happy I was when I heard the news. It’s totally made my week.

Story of the day for me. My heart sank as I was sure this kid was a goner. Amazing story of not giving up hope.
I can totally see my little girl doing something like this. Scares the crap out of me.
Thanks for sharing some good news with the bloggy crowd.

Thanks for posting some good news… and nice use of the word “y’all”, you are the first northerner I’ve met to use it. =)
