Community Policing at its Best
Leigh Cummings – a great blogger and an absolute riot in person – has shared a story about a mugging that occurred outside her apartment.
It’s a great story of people coming together. Immediately and without hesitation, Leigh and her boyfriend bravely stepped outside to assist these complete strangers along with several neighbors. One even took off after the muggers in question.
Then Leigh took to Twitter to give info and found out that the hoodlums were not only caught, but could be related to the series of muggings that have been occurring in the neighborhood.
Now THAT is a community, ladies and gentlemen. Kudos all around to those involved, and the Albany Police for responding swiftly and successfully to the incident.
Check out her post. It definitely put a smile on my face.

Woohoo! I knew the Albany fuzz could catch someone for something, somewhere, someday.
They deserve a cake that says “1st Success” !
Of course they probably wouldn’t have caught the culprits without the help of your friends…but still. :/
They can probably catch a lot more culprits with the help of the community, considering how well it worked last night.
Aw, thank you! By the time we got out there, the baddies had taken off, so we were in no danger (and, therefore, not too brave. Ha) but it was so reassuring to see everyone rush out to help. The girls lived in the neighborhood, too. It could have been me or any one of our other neighbors. :|
Leigh, your actions last night come as no surprise to me. Even in the short time I’ve known you, I’ve learned that you possess a great deal of empathy.
Hooray for Leigh! If more people pay attention to what’s going on outside their doors, and aren’t afraid to speak up, then there might be fewer crimes. Everyone should take note and be more involved in their community – it could make your world a better place.
Way to go!! Good job.
