A recent letter sent to a Standard-Examiner in Utah has proven once again that old adage: double murderers LOVE “Garfield”!

…wait, what?

As Jeremy Valdes faces the death penalty in a double homicide, he recently e-mailed a letter to the Standard-Examiner, much to the surprise of lawyers on both sides of the case.

Valdes also faults the Standard-Examiner’s coverage, and concludes by casting votes for cartoons under consideration by the paper.

“While I have you here, my friends and I would like to request that you bring back the comics, Pearls Before Swines and Garfield. Thank you.”

Apparently the letter is legitimate and was submitted to the newspaper through one of Valdes’ relatives. Valdes is currently on trial for a double murder that occurred the day before Thanksgiving in 2009.

The Albany Times Union already carries both strips.
