When I’m not busy wagging my finger at and/or making fun of the fine folks at the Times Union, I spend my time on Twitter asking people that follow me what I should write about.

This is the best they could come up with.

MULLETS

I don’t think there’s anything I could say about mullets that hasn’t already been said. Except that mullets are no longer as awesome as they used to be. The joke was funny ten or fifteen years ago, but now the site of a child with a mullet and/or a rat tail just makes me sad.

And for those who are still growing mullets ironically? Stop. It’s the hair equivalent of walking around in a “Where’s the Beef?” t-shirt.

The best mullet ever, by the way, was Ricardo Montalban’s in “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.”

Simply glorious.

ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11

I’m not touching this one until I have more time to reflect on it. There’s things I want to say, but I don’t want to say them off the cuff, because I think they’re all very important points and worthy of more in-depth discussion and examination. In short, it was a terrible tragedy and certainly a milestone for our generation, but it’s also been nine years and there are still people wrapping themselves in the tattered flag of the attack in order to get away with questionable or downright hateful attitudes and actions.

UPDATE ON MY 1st 5K

Oh boy.

I’ve been training, but not nearly as much as I’d like. Things like work and an event I’m planning for November (originally scheduled for October but then everybody and their mother had an event or festival planned that weekend) have kept me from getting in as much running time as I’d like.

As a result, I know that on Sunday I’m going to have to push myself harder physically than I’ve ever had to before. It’s a strange feeling leading up to the race. I feel a combination of anxiety and excitement. On the same token, I’ll be happy when it’s over and I can start sleeping in again.

MAD MEN

What a great show. Jon Hamm was magnificent this week, putting one of the best performances I’ve seen from any actor on any television show ever. I also loved that this episode had a callback to that incredible scene from a couple seasons ago where he visited Peggy in the hospital.

The only other shows I’m watching right now – well, more like catching up on – are the BBC’s “Blood in the Wire” and the televised mini-series adaptation of Ken Follett’s “Pillars of the Earth,” which I guess aired or is airing on Starz stateside? Regardless, it’s on Netflix Instant Viewing, so go check it out. It’s epic and fantastic.

Ricardo Montalban’s in “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” not only had the best mullet on film but also had the best fake chest ever!

And let’s not forget the deceased. Greatest wrestler mullet ever was Mike Awesome (http://www.findagrave.com/photos250/photos/2007/49/17991309_117193164197.jpg)

  2. Yeah, sorry for the mullet idea. I had just read something and it was fresh in my mind. Pair that with having just seen Extreme Home Makeover destroying a family’s mobile home with a monster truck, and it was a white trash trifecta I just couldn’t get out of my head.
