Music for 28-Year-Old Men Like Me
Well, what DO you like?
Lotsa stuff. Most recently, I’ve stumbled on Adam Arcuragi.
Arcuragi is a singer-songwriter from Philadelphia who plays what he calls Death Gospel. Stirring, emotive, and lyrically transcendent.
He has a September 2009 release called “I Am Become Joy” that has some fantastic songs on it. Recently he recorded a session for the website DayTrotter that you need to listen to.
He’s one of those artists that makes me glad I’m not a musician; if I was, I’d hear something like his performance of “Almost Always” from that DayTrotter session and put my foot through my guitar in a jealous rage.
As a sampling, here’s his debut 2006 self-titled LP, which is graciously streamed for your listening pleasure via AdamArcuragi.com.
Hey, guys who book Valentine’s, what do you think it would take to get him up here? Because I’d buy a ticket.

I’m just getting into Adam Arcuragi and agree that his stuff is quite lovely. I’d also buy a ticket. (Ahem, Howard. Get on that, please. :)) At the moment, though, I’m on a major Destroyer kick and for some reason I always think that you would enjoy them, if you don’t already. This album, in particular, is utter perfection.
