Stuart Scott once told Ron Jaworski that he had outfitted his ring like Dick Tracy's and that he record his ESPN radio show through it. It took Jaws a full year to figure out it was a hoax.

Jaws thinks Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne needs to get rid of the ball quicker. I mean, s***, he needs to get rid of the ball quicker!

Cue Christian Bale screaming about being a professional.

Later in the game, Jaworski apologized to colleague Mike Tirico and the listening audience.

My favorite part:
Tirico: “…okay.”
*six to eight seconds of dead air*

Rock drummer and professional private investigator Jabberjaw would probably be a better broadcaster than Jaws.

Look, I don’t care that Jaworski said “s***” on the air. In fact, I think it’s awesome, and would love for Jon Gruden to bust out with a “this f***in’ guy” or for Troy Aikman to say anything interesting, ever.

My problem is with the jock-offs outfits like ESPN, Fox, and CBS keep hiring to do these games; men whose only qualification is having played the game. That alone doesn’t make for a good announcer or broadcaster. There are people whose job and training is specifically in this sort of thing. Do we fans need – or want – these well-meaning but woefully inept ex-players in the booth?

S***, I dont’ think so.

I couldn’t watch the games after the 1st half because I couldn’t stand Jaws and Gruden commenting on every god damn play. It was so frustrating to watch.

    • T – Exactly. I have to completely tune it out to even make it through a game.

Thing is, I don’t mind as much them doing pre and post-game stuff. Maybe it’s because I don’t mind missing that aspect of a telecast, but also, they’re in smaller doses and much more tolerable.

I couldn’t listen ’cause none of them could keep their lips off of Brady’s a$$ the entire 2nd half. Aren’t they supposed to at least appear impartial?

Throwing a flag on this one.

Yes, some former athletes make lousy color commentators, but some of them, like Jaworski are quite good. He offers insight into the game that “People whose job and training is specifically in this sort of thing” do not bring to the table. And I think Troy Aikman is actually pretty good.

Granted, some of these guys — particularly a few on Fox NFL Sunday — seem more like court jesters than analysts. Maybe they got hit on the head a few too many times, but at least they are entertaining, which is what it’s all about, anyway.

My favorite player/commentator is Chris Collinsworth, even though he sometimes can get a little smug.
Don’t forget Brett Farve – they always over-praised him.
I completely agree with VM on the favoritism. It would be one thing if the the game was broadcast on NESN, but it wasn’t.
