Staying true to the nature of charity that I pined for in my post about the Bobblevote contest’s seemingly paltry contribution to charity, TU Blogger and Bobblevote.com Final Four participant Kristi Gustafson has made a promise: for every single vote Kristi receives in this round, her team will donate 1 minute of community service to her charity Gilda’s Club.

Vote here.

This is an absolutely fantastic idea, both in terms of getting a base mobilized and also contributing in a very real way. THIS is what contests like this should be about: having fun in the name of charity while paying something more than mention and lip service to it. Kristi should definitely be commended, and she’s got my vote.

…until the next round, when she’ll potentially face fellow TU blogger and WTEN anchor Lydia Kulbida, who has already been kicking in her own resources towards five charities.

I mean c’mon, Kristi versus Lydia? If you really loved me, you two wouldn’t even ask me to choose.

Welcome to Team KG. I knew you’d see it my way eventually. ;)

How long has this voting been going before the Charity became the focus though?

I respect Lydia for donating her own money from the very start. It shows that she thought it was the right thing to do and realized that the charities should be put front and center.
It appears to me that Kristi’s decision to donate 1 minute for every vote she gets is a recently hatched plan to save-face in light of the negative press the bobble-head promotion has been getting. It’s also a ploy to get more votes. Do I have a problem with that? No I don’t. I’m sure the other bobble-head participants are whoring themselves too to get votes.
Wouldn’t it be great if all the contestants showed their commitment to their chosen charity if they all donated their time and money without any strings attached. Competition is fun, but these charities really need help, not gimmicks which kind of help.
