Let’s say you’re a Congressman. You’re a pretty well known guy in your area and fairly recognizable, especially since you just ran for re-election last Fall.

Now imagine you e-mail a picture of yourself shirtless to an anonymous person in your area – probably a constituent – and tell her you’re a divorced lobbyist.

“Wait,” you say to yourself. “Why would I do that? I’m a married Congressman. Even if I have so little faith in the electorate, I’m not taking that chance.”

Congratulations, reader. You have more sense than Congressman Chris Lee.

A picture that Lee sent to an anonymous woman he began flirting with on Craigslist was posted to the website Gawker yesterday afternoon. Lee, who’s married with a child, told the woman he was a divorced lobbyist and sent her a picture of himself shirtless and flexing in front of a mirror, MySpace 2004 style.

The woman he was flirting with became curious after a few exchanges and did a search for him online, where she uncovered his true identity and found out he was married. In  what should come to a surprise as no one in this day and age, she then forwarded the correspondence to the website Gawker.

So let’s recap:

  • Married Congressman
  • Trolls for women online
  • Finds woman and sends her flirty messages and a shirtless pic
  • Tells the woman he’s a divorced lobbyist…using his real name and personal e-mail

These are the people we elect, folks.

Must be a hormonal imbalance or he got some roids with the bike he got from Paulie Sr?

Although morally incorrect from the perspective that the man is married and has children, why do we find any of this to be a big suprise?! I understand that he’s an elected offical and I know that people will say “well if he’s immoral/cheats on his wife” what other types of secrets is the man hidding. The problem with society is the fact that everyone is judging everyone, but yet everyone lives in a glass house/has skeletons in their closet. The man should be judged/crucified only on his job performance not his extra-martial affairs.

I just shake my head now. A congressman cheating on his wife is about as surprising as finding out Barry Bonds took HGH.

  4. Rob Madeo says:

C’mon, Kevin. I’m sure this is the first time he’s ever done anything like this.

  5. robin says:

You know I am so sick and tired of people that have been blessed with healthy spouses and children and have good jobs and then they pull disgusting acts such as this. What is wrong with people ………….

  6. Joe says:

@John it becomes an issue because they run on family values and vote on those values so if the cant live by the moral codes they are shoving down the throats of citizens of our country so yes he should be judges.

  7. john says:

Joe you’re right! With that said, politicans should run on the platform of just “getting the job done.” There are a lot of people that do a lot of bad things, but yet function and perform above and beyond what their job calls for.

  8. Shan says:

Really? “Is this real life?” hahaha! come on maaan! get it together!

  9. peterb says:

We’re lucky that someone this stupid is no longer involved in running our government….kind of how I felt about Spitzer. That he could imagine this wouldn’t be found out speaks volumes.

I’m less concerned with their lack of morality than their lack of common sense.

  10. Kimberly says:

Personally, I think he wanted to be caught.

  11. jakester says:

John, in his job, making sound decisions and having very good intuition and a rock solid mental state is essential. I doubt he would qualify. Not about the cheating part, but the total lack of regard or concern for his actions convinces ME there’s something wrong and he’s unqualified for his position.

If he can make those kind of decisions regarding the most important things in HIS life what’s he gonna do for others… sell them out, that’s what.

    I totally agree with Kev…

  12. Hannah says:

Hey, maybe he just didn’t want the job…he resigned extremely quickly after this leaked.

  13. Jango Davis says:

Hey, at least he didn’t sell weapons to Iran in exhange for cash to give to terrorists to buy coccaine and then sell for more weapons…in that case we’d pardon him and give him his own show on Fox News.

  14. Jango Davis says:

Kevin-We don’t sell arms to nations that the U.S. Congress had previously voted on not to sell arms to, particularly those who had only recently held U.S. citizens hostage for 444 days. That’s why it was treason. You do know what Iran-Contra was all about, don’t you YOUNG man?

  15. jakester says:

Wow, the congressman sold arms to Iran !!!

  16. jakester says:

Which one’s lefts or rights ???

  17. Robare says:

Didn’t Lee learn anything from former President Clinton, “I never had sex with that woman”.

  18. NGD says:

This idiot should have gone to http://www.ashleymadison.com/ instead. They guarantee an affair, for the right price.

  19. SiobhanK524 says:

I’m just relieved that it was one of our better-looking congressmen who did this.

We have a lot of politicians in NYS who’ve been hit with the ugly stick, so I’m glad they’ve had the sense to limit their misdeeds to embezzling from community health centers and shaking down the Yankees for free tickets.

  20. HomeTownGirl says:

I think he’s on the right track now. His name, Chris Lee, sounds like a porn name.

  21. Katie says:

Oh man, he used his real name? Before I knew that, I was giving the Craigslist woman a lot more credit in the political awareness and/or Google-fu categories for figuring out who he was.

    • Yeah, that’s what makes it so profoundly stupid. He was like “Oh, I’m divorced and a lobbyist.” But then not only used his real name, but didn’t even take the time to create a fake e-mail address for it.

      Oy.
